The world renouned ScotBarNY Cup took place in April, as part of the Tartan Week celebrations in New York. This year’s Cup took the format of a challenge match featuring Scotland v. The Rest of the World.
The brilliant blue skies and magnificent sunshine throughout bore little resemblence to a typical Scottish day, but the sound of the bagpipes and the waft of whiskey across the pitch soon made the Scots feel right at home. The Rest of the World boasted players from all corners of the globe but, despite their eclectic mix, they were unable to cope with celtic flair and braveheart passion of the Scots, who ran out 8-0 victors.
In time honored fashion, both teams headed to the nearest public house after the game, where sorrows were drowned, goals were relived and beer was gulped from the prestigious trophy. Thanks to everyone who participated and hopefully see you all next year for the re-match!
ScotBarNY hosted a reception at Hughes Hubbard and Reed LLP to welcome a visiting delegation of the Scottish Arbitration Center. The keynote speaker, Brandon Malone, chairman of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, gave a short presentation on the topic of international commercial arbitration in Scotland. ScotBarNY was also delighted to welcome the noted Scottish actor, Brian Cox. Mr. Cox, who is Rector of the University of Dundee, used the occasion to announce a formal tie up between Dundee University’s oil and gas experts and the Scottish Arbitration Centre. Approximately 60 guests attended, including the leading lights of the New York arbitration bar, as well as representatives of Scottish Development International, Visit Scotland, and UK Trade and Industry.
